Lesson 1 Scribbler Lights Up

Introduction

Why do robots have lights? What does it take to turn them on and off?

The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to create a program in the Program Maker, how to operate the LED lights on the Scribbler, and to learn more about power and how light bulbs work.

Objectives/Outcomes:

1. Create a program in the Program Maker software

2. Upload and run a program on the Scribbler robot

3. Program the 3 LED lights to turn on and off on the Scribbler robot

4. Edit LED lights in the Program Maker software

5. Explain the difference between incandescent light bulbs and LED light bulbs

6. Explain the difference between DC power and AC power

 

Instructions:

View the following items. The Concept video provides background information about LED lights and DC Power. The Activity Introduction Video provides an overview of the hands-on activity and demonstrates what you will be able to do.  The Activity Video and the Activity Step by Step Instructions provide details about how to complete the Robot Activity,  You will find helpful information in the Additional Resources - it is the Scribbler help for LEDs.

Open the Worksheet document. The worksheet contains a checklist for you to check off items as you complete them, and also has questions to answer. Give the filled-out worksheet to your instructor at the completion of this activity.
